Now that the holidays are over, we quickly turn to the new year. Lots of things are happening at Kosta Browne. In fact, we're so busy, I don't see my partners all that much. I'll be honest. I haven't had a good conversation with Michael Browne since blending. That was December. Now it's crunch time at the winery as Michael and Shane wrap up bottling. A quick note: this is like Finals for Michael. Maybe it's more like a thesis. All of that work for 16 months and now the final blends go under cork. Another vintage down. A little nerve-racking. In the end, I love giving our winemaking crew credit, especially at this time of year. I take part in crush, but bottling...forget about it! I'd just get in the way. So what the heck am I doing this time of year?
Michael recently told me, " I can't wait till bottling is over. My busy time of the year is over and your's is just beginning." I looked at him quite scornfully. What a jerk. Then we laughed and had a huge glass of wine. What else are you going to do? ANYWAY...my busy time of year is indeed here. Not that there is any down time of the year. But late winter / early spring is special. I get to travel and say "hi" to all of our friends around the country. My travels do not consist of private meetings with our distributors in a conference room. No, in reallity, I head out to have a little fun and share a little wine. We're talking wine dinners, seminars, trade tastings, yadda, yadda. (Did I just yadda yadda wine?)
So, check out our news and reviews section of our website as I will keep everyone posted on my travels. I know that we are not able to have everyone out to the winery, so I think if I can bring KB to you, it's a great opportunity!
I hope see you on the road!
Thank you for once again sharing your wines with us mountain-goers. The event was worth giving up a day on the slopes. Being seated at a table without a winemaker for lunch, I tried my best to answer the questions about your wines and the others. The consensus at my table was that the KB was the wine of the seminar, with the August West and Owen Roe tied for second. No one else at my table had any prior experience with your wines, so it was cool to see how others reacted to their first taste. The ability to preview the spring 05's was a privilege and an early glimpse into the great potential of this vintage. I will follow your advice and taste my "one" bottle of syrah once a year, over the next five or so years. Safe travels on your continuing roadtrip and come back to Vail anytime.
Just wanted to chime in & say that your wine is my favorite. Had a chance to knock back a few bottles last night with dinner & don't think I've ever had better Pinot in my life! Keep up the great work!!

Dan,
Glad to see that you'll be keeping busy this winter. Have you all heard of some of the great restaurants/wine lists in the "bread basket" of the country (Kansas City - JJ's Restaraunt, American R., , Starker's Private Reserve, etc.)? In any event we'd like to see you around this area (none on your current list). I just received my e-mail for this year's allocation and was happy to see that by 6 hrs after release the server was overwhelmed and I was advised to check back later. Congratulations on what you two (plus many others I'm sure) have done, it's phenomenal! You better believe I'll be happy to check back later. Keep up the good work.

Dan:
Early last May, 4 of my best friends and all of our wives flew to Sonoma to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was fortunate to have another friend arrange a barrel tasting at your winery that weekend. It was spectacular, but the best part was getting squeezed onto your list as a result. If your travels take you to the Seattle area, give me a shout, and I'll try to pay back the kind hospitality.
Destin Charity Wine Auction - BBQ Throwdown
Dan,
We cannot thank you enough for leading our charge at the Destin Charity Wine Auction April 18-21. The Auction was a huge success raising over $750,000 in our second year. The BBQ Throwdown with you and John Holdredge was a night to be remembered for a lifetime. People are still talking about it all over the country. Big thanks also to John Holdredge, David Long, Bob Cabral and Julie Martinelli. And to Ed and Brian for their donations. The Pinot Posse did well at the Auction. Thanks to Allison and Mazie for being such good sports and so much fun. Next Throwdown in August at your place. Hope you liked the Lazy Lauren with the Kosta Browne logo. Orders can be placed for Lazy Lauren's at www. Jag007.com for those who want what the winemakers have. Stay dry.
